India-Thailand joint military exercise Maitree 2024 underway in Thailand

The joint military exercise Maitree 2024 between the Indian Army and the Royal Thailand Army is underway in Thailand's Tak Province. This significant exercise aims to enhance military cooperation and operational capabilities under the United Nations charter, marking a crucial milestone for both nations. Troops from both armies are deeply involved in intense training sessions, focusing on counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in jungle and urban environments. The exercise prioritizes the exchange of best practices, with soldiers from India and Thailand sharing their expertise and learning from each other.

Comprehensive Training and Cultural Exchange

Physical fitness and combat readiness are key components of the training, which includes joint activities such as martial arts, games, and specialized physical training sessions. The Indian Army contingent has also conducted Yoga sessions for their Thai counterparts, emphasizing cultural exchange alongside military collaboration. The range of joint training activities conducted so far includes weapon training, rappelling, jungle survival techniques, navigation training, communication exercises, combat first aid, and casualty evacuation drills. These activities are designed to improve interoperability and mutual understanding between the two armies.

Exercise Maitree 2024 has seen enthusiastic participation and growing camaraderie between Indian and Thai troops. This collaboration not only strengthens the operational capabilities of both armies but also deepens the longstanding friendship between the two armed forces. The exercise will continue until July 15, with additional training activities to further enhance the operational synergy between the Indian Army and the Royal Thailand Army.
