The chief of Air Staff, Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari, in the presence of Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan and others unveiled the new ensign of the Indian Air force on the occasion of Air Force Day, 8th October.
At the ongoing annual Air Force Parade at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, the new ensign was unveiled by the Mi-17v5.
The previous ensign, adopted in 1951, was blue in colour, containing the National Flag in the first quadrant and a roundel consisting of the three colours of the National Flag, i.e., Saffron, White and Green. The new ensign has included the Air Force crest in the top corner of the Ensign, towards the fly side. The IAS crest has the National symbol, the Ashoka lion on the top with words, 'Satyameva Jayata', inscribed below it. As per the official statement, the new ensign now reflects the values of Air Force in an more efficient way.
It is after 72 years that a new ensign is being adopted by the Indian Air Force. The Air Force walked on the footsteps of the Indian Navy as the latter jettisoned the Cross of St. George on its flag, a colonial-era remnant, last year.
