India has seen a remarkable recovery in its domestic air traffic, reaching 86% of its pre-Covid level in 2022. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the industry left the year in far stronger shape than it entered, with domestic traffic reaching 85.7% of the level of 2019.

The recovery in air travel continued in December last year, with total traffic rising 39.7% compared to December 2021 and reaching 76.9% of the December 2019 level. This shows that with the right set of policies, the air travel industry can bounce back from even the most challenging of times.
