India and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia forge Bilateral Haj Agreement 2024

Today in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, H.E. Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah, Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), and Smt. Zubin Irani, Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs signed the Bilateral Haj Agreement 2024. Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, accompanied Irani. 

A total of 1,75,025 Indian pilgrims have been confirmed for the Haj 2024, of which 1,40,020 seats are reserved for pilgrims to proceed through the Haj Committee of India. This will be extremely helpful to common first-time pilgrims planning to perform the Haj in 2024, while 35,005 pilgrims will be allowed to proceed through Haj Group Operators.

During the meeting with the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, the KSA side expressed its sincere gratitude for the digital initiatives of the Indian government that facilitate and promote ease and convenience for Indian pilgrims making the Hajj by providing last-mile information. They also promised to offer any assistance that they could in this regard. The way in which the Government of India is promoting participation through the Ladies without Mehram (LWM) category was discussed, appreciated, and commended.

After the bilateral Haj agreement was signed and the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was met, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, accompanied by Shri. Muraleedharan, visited the King Abdulaziz International Airport's Haj Terminal in Jeddah to supervise the Haj pilgrim arrangements and discuss ways to improve logistics and monitoring systems for the convenience of Indian Haj pilgrims.
