IMD Issues Alert: Heavy Rainfall Expected in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra

On Monday, August 26, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that a depression over northwest and adjacent east Rajasthan had intensified into a deep depression. This system is expected to bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, and Maharashtra over the next two to three days.

On August 25, the deep depression was centered approximately 70 km south-southeast of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The IMD predicts that this system will move west-southwest, impacting South Rajasthan and Gujarat before reaching Saurashtra, Kutch, and parts of Pakistan by August 29.

In addition to the deep depression, the IMD also identified another low-pressure area over Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal. This system is anticipated to strengthen and move toward Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha, and Jharkhand in the coming two days.

Red Alert Issued for Heavy Rainfall

The IMD has issued a red alert for West Madhya Pradesh, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on August 26. Similar conditions are forecasted for east and south Rajasthan, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch from August 26 to 29. Other regions, including Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand, are also likely to experience significant rainfall in the next 48 hours.

Precautions for Fisherfolk and Farmers

The IMD has advised fisherfolk to avoid venturing into the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, particularly near the coasts of Gujarat, Pakistan, and Maharashtra, until August 30.
