Gyanvapi survey proceeds amid a mosque panel boycott threat

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) team and a team from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur have been conducting a scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi. The survey's goal is to ascertain whether a Hindu temple was there when the mosque was constructed. The survey team has been taking measurements, charting, and taking photographs as they evaluate the mosque's basement and tombs.

The poll has been conducted in an environment with strict security, and no media representatives have been permitted near the site. Women litigants who are fighting for the right to worship a number of deities inside the Gyanvapi enclosure sought the ASI survey. On July 21, the district judge had ordered the poll. The deadline for the ASI to submit its report was August 4. The court has given the ASI an additional four weeks to finish the survey and submit the report.
