Greek Tragedy- 43 dead in train accident

A head-on collision of two trains took place in Central Greece. One train was carrying 342 passengers and the other transporting cargo from Thessaloniki to Larissa. The incident took place at 11.20 pm on Tuesday outside the town of Tempe. The main reason for the incident was because of the Thessaloniki-bound night train, which had set out from Athens. It unexpectedly switched tracks and diverged to the freight track. Therefore, the two trains moved along the same track, towards each other for some kilometres and then collided at high speed.

In the span of 24 hours, 43 passengers have been reported dead and many are injured.

The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, rushed to Tempe. After seeing the condition, she has called a three-day period of official mourning.
