A ₹33 Crore Property Owner Spent a Day as a Beggar. But Why? 🙏

What would happen if a millionaire MLA left behind his cars and security and spent an entire day on the streets as a beggar?

That’s what Ghatkopar MLA Parag Shah reportedly did during Jain Chaturmas, as an exercise in humility and self-reflection.

During the experience, some people gave him money, while someone even offered him a samosa. But when people discovered that the person they believed was a beggar was actually an MLA and businessman, they were surprised.

In Jain tradition, Chaturmas is associated with introspection, discipline and restraint. Shah’s experience was reportedly intended to help him understand the perspective of someone living without privilege.

But there’s a larger point here.

For him, begging was a one-day experience. For many people, homelessness and poverty are a daily reality.

So instead of simply giving a few coins, perhaps we should ask: How can we help someone become more self-reliant?
