Forest Officers Sit in a Cage Like Bait to Catch as Leopard

In the Chhota Udepur district of Gujarat, a man-eating leopard was on the loose for nearly a week.  The enormous cat had injured three people and killed approximately five people, including two children. Such was the terror that parents had stopped sending their children to school.  The Bodeli district brought in approximately 14 cages. Goats were placed as a bait.

However, nothing worked. That's when Range Forest Officer Anil Rathwa made the decision to become a bait.

Rathwa decided to sit in a cage to get the attention of the leopard. The leopard was tranquilized when it came near the cage after sitting there for more than five hours. The man-eater leopard was finally captured by forest officials.

Leopards are powerful predators and have the potential to cause serious harm to humans. They are also a protected species in many countries, and harming or killing them without cause is illegal. Instead of using risky tactics to capture a leopard, forest officers should use non-lethal methods to manage the animal's behavior and prevent conflicts with humans. This can include techniques like installing fences, using noise deterrents, and relocating the animal to a more suitable habitat.
