Fireflies Hotspots: Study reveals nighttime treasures in Bengaluru

A recent study by researchers from the Environment Management and Policy Research Institute (EMPRI) in Bengaluru has found 12 areas within the city where fireflies can be seen. The ongoing study aims to protect fireflies and their habitats, as well as assess the population and diversity of these enchanting insects in Karnataka.

Notable congregations of fireflies have been observed at various locations, including the campuses of the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), GKVK, and Sambhram College. Other hotspots include Jarakabandi State Forest in Kammagondahalli, the Institute of Wood Science and Technology, Forest Nursery at Hebbal Tank, Hessaraghaatta Tank, Bannerghatta National Park, Kaggalipura, Nandi Hills, Art of Living ashram, and H Cross.
