The case, filed on November 20, 2023, by CBI’s Ranchi unit, lists Pankaj Mishra, a former aide of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, among the accused. Other accused individuals include Pavitra Kumar Yadav, Rajesh Yadav, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Bacchu Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, and Suvesh Mandal. They allegedly participated in illegal stone extraction from Nimbu Pahar, Sahibganj.

Illegal Mining Activities Linked to Revenue Losses

The CBI reported that illegal mining activities in Sahibganj led to considerable government revenue losses due to unpaid royalties and violations of mining laws. Searches continue at properties linked to the accused, and evidence reveals involvement of key individuals and firms who allegedly concealed proceeds from illegal operations.

The Jharkhand High Court directed the CBI to investigate accusations brought forth by petitioner Bijay Hansda. Hansda alleged that illegal mining had persisted for two and a half years, allegedly enabled by collusion with local mining officials.
