Caretaker Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has been at the center of attention, as the state eagerly waits for the declaration of its next CM. Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant dismissed rumors of Shinde being upset, clarifying that the CM left for his native village, Dare, in Satara district due to fever and cold. "Any person can fall sick and if he has gone to a good place (for health reasons), there is no point in concluding that he is upset," said Samant. The statement came after Shinde met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday night.
Government Formation Delayed
The much-anticipated meeting between Mahayuti allies BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP was canceled on Friday, further pushing government formation after the declaration of results of the Maharashtra assembly election a week ago. Talking on postponed meeting, Uday Samant said "The virtual meeting still stands."
Another Shiv Sena leader, Sanjay Shirsat, showed confidence that the name of the CM will be finalised soon. He said, "PM Modi and Amit Shah will decide who will be the next chief minister of Maharashtra. The name of the Maharashtra CM should be declared by midnight today." Shirsat also mentioned that the oath-taking ceremony would probably take place on December 2. Addressing speculation about Shinde’s political ambitions, Shirsat emphasized that Shinde has no interest in joining the Union cabinet. “Eknath Shinde will not go to Delhi. He is more interested in Maharashtra politics than Delhi politics,” he asserted.
A Big Decision Expected Soon
Shirsat said Shinde's visit to Dare often coincides with times of introspection before a major decision. "When he has to make a big decision, he goes to his native village. By tomorrow evening, he will take a very big decision," Shirsat said.
