Delhi is gearing up for the upcoming G20 Summit by implementing traffic restrictions and deploying thousands of police personnel. The Delhi Police have announced that from September 8 to September 11, the New Delhi district will be considered a "controlled zone-I. This means that heavy, medium, and light goods vehicles will not be allowed to enter the city, except for those carrying essential commodities with valid permits. Buses already present in Delhi will operate on the Ring Road and the road network beyond it towards the borders of the city.
Autorickshaws and taxis will still be allowed in certain areas, like Connaught Place, and movement towards the airport and the Old Railway Station will be facilitated. However, passengers are advised to follow the recommended routes and allow sufficient time for travel. Metro services will also be available for commuters, although boarding and de-boarding at the Supreme Court Metro Station will not be permitted during specific hours.
To ensure the smooth flow of emergency services, a dedicated ambulance control room will be operational throughout the summit. Around 20 junctions have been identified for the passage of ambulances, and traffic inspectors will be stationed in these areas on two-wheelers. In case of emergencies, individuals can contact the provided emergency numbers.
Additionally, a virtual help desk will be available to provide information about road diversions, closures, traffic, and other travel advisories in the city. This desk will also assist delegates and tourists, and further information can be accessed through MayMyIndia and Google Map Services.
These preparations aim to minimise disruptions and ensure the safety and convenience of both residents and visitors during the G20 Summit. By implementing traffic restrictions, deploying additional personnel, and providing necessary information and services, Delhi is ready to host the international event successfully.
