Delhi Horror: Two Northeast Women Allegedly Molested, Beaten Outside Nehru Place Club

A disturbing case of alleged molestation, racial abuse, and physical assault involving two women from Northeast India has sparked outrage in the national capital after the victims claimed they were attacked by a group of men outside a club in Delhi’s Nehru Place area during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident, which reportedly unfolded around 5 am on May 11, has once again reignited concerns over the safety of women and repeated allegations of racial discrimination faced by people from the Northeast in metropolitan cities.

According to police officials and statements made by the victims, the women had stepped out for tea after leaving a club in South Delhi when they were allegedly harassed, catcalled, racially abused, and violently assaulted by a group of men. An FIR has since been registered, and Delhi Police said four accused have been identified as the investigation continues.

What Happened Outside the Club

As per the complaint filed with Delhi Police, the two women — both from Northeast India — had gone to a club in Nehru Place on Saturday night. After leaving the venue in the early hours of Sunday, they stopped at a tea stall nearby.

It was there that they allegedly encountered a group of men who began catcalling them and passing inappropriate remarks. The women stated that the situation escalated rapidly after they objected to the behaviour.

According to the complaint, the men allegedly used racist slurs directed at the women and physically attacked them. One of the victims alleged that her clothes were torn during the scuffle, while the other claimed she was hit with a bamboo stick.

The women also alleged that they were molested during the attack. The complaint further stated that the accused dragged them by their hair, punched and kicked them, and continued assaulting them even after they tried to resist.

One of the victims reportedly sustained injuries to her face and body, while the other complained of severe bruises and trauma following the assault.

Victims Recount “Terrifying” Ordeal

The survivors described the incident as deeply traumatic and said they feared for their lives during the attack.

According to reports, one of the women alleged that the attackers surrounded them near the tea stall and began verbally abusing them before physically assaulting them. She claimed the men repeatedly mocked their appearance and ethnicity while hurling racial slurs.

The victims also alleged that several bystanders initially failed to intervene as the attack unfolded in public view.

One woman reportedly said that the attackers behaved aggressively after being confronted over the catcalling, and the altercation soon turned violent. The women alleged that they were beaten mercilessly and subjected to molestation despite pleading for help.

The incident has triggered widespread anger on social media, with many users demanding strict punishment for the accused and stronger measures to protect women from Northeast India living in Delhi and other metropolitan cities.

FIR Registered Under Multiple Charges

Delhi Police confirmed that an FIR has been registered in connection with the case at the Nehru Place police station.

Officials said the complaint includes charges related to molestation, voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, intentional insult, criminal intimidation, and assault on women. Sections pertaining to racial abuse and outraging the modesty of women have also reportedly been invoked.

Police said the victims underwent medical examination after the incident, and statements have been recorded as part of the investigation.

Authorities added that CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify all individuals involved in the alleged attack.

Four Accused Identified

According to Delhi Police, four accused have already been identified in the case.

Officials said efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects, and raids are being conducted at multiple locations. Police teams are also analysing surveillance footage and questioning witnesses who were present near the tea stall and club area during the incident.

While the identities of the accused have not yet been publicly disclosed, investigators said they are confident of making arrests soon.

Police further stated that additional legal provisions may be added depending on the findings of the investigation.

Questions Over Women’s Safety in Delhi

The incident has once again put the spotlight on women’s safety in Delhi, particularly for women from Northeast India who have often reported facing racial discrimination, harassment, and stereotyping in urban centres.

Civil society groups and student organisations from the Northeast strongly condemned the alleged assault and called for swift justice.

Several activists pointed out that despite years of awareness campaigns and repeated promises from authorities, people from the Northeast continue to face racist remarks and discriminatory treatment in different parts of the country.

Women’s rights groups also expressed concern over the brutality described in the complaint, especially allegations that the victims’ clothes were torn and they were beaten with sticks in a public area.

The case has renewed demands for stricter enforcement of anti-harassment laws, quicker police response mechanisms, and greater sensitisation regarding racial discrimination.

Northeast Communities Demand Action

Members of Northeast communities residing in Delhi have reacted strongly to the incident, saying the assault reflects a larger pattern of prejudice and insecurity.

Community leaders urged Delhi Police to ensure that the accused are arrested quickly and prosecuted without delay. Some organisations also called for dedicated support systems for victims of racial violence and gender-based crimes.

Student bodies from the Northeast alleged that such incidents are often underreported because victims fear social stigma or lack confidence in the justice system.

The latest case, they said, should serve as a wake-up call for authorities to address both women’s safety and racial discrimination more seriously.

Political and Public Reactions

The incident drew condemnation from political leaders and public figures, many of whom demanded exemplary punishment for the accused.

Social media platforms were flooded with reactions condemning the alleged assault and expressing solidarity with the victims. Hashtags related to women’s safety and racial justice began trending soon after news of the incident emerged.

Many users questioned how such an alleged attack could take place in a crowded part of South Delhi during early morning hours. Others criticised the recurring pattern of violence against women and racial targeting of Northeastern citizens.

Activists also emphasised that racial discrimination against people from the Northeast often goes unnoticed or is dismissed casually, despite repeated incidents over the years.

Investigation Continues

Delhi Police said the investigation remains ongoing and assured that strict action would be taken based on evidence gathered during the probe.

Officials said all aspects of the case are being examined carefully, including allegations of molestation, racial abuse, and physical assault. Statements from witnesses and CCTV footage are expected to play a key role in establishing the sequence of events.

The police have also appealed to the public to come forward with any information related to the incident.

As outrage grows over the alleged assault, the case has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger protection mechanisms for women and more serious action against racial discrimination in India’s cities.

The coming days are likely to see increased scrutiny on the investigation, with activists and community groups closely watching whether swift justice is delivered in a case that has shaken many across the country.
