On October 9, 2023, the Delhi Government, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, honoured individuals with disabilities who have achieved remarkable success in various fields. The CM awarded State Awards to 11 individuals with disabilities who have excelled in various domains; in addition, 4 Paralympic athletes were also awarded.
CM Arvind Kejriwal highlighted the inspiring stories of these individuals who have transformed their disabilities into strengths. In order to motivate society, he urged the Social Welfare Department to publish their stories in newspapers. He emphasised that everyone faces challenges in life, but these awardees have shown the importance of accepting one's circumstances and taking action to make a positive impact. The CM reassured that the Delhi government is committed to supporting individuals with disabilities and has plans in place for their welfare. He emphasised that the government has sufficient funds to create schemes for their benefit.
Social Welfare Minister Shri Raaj Kumar Anand spoke about the importance of the government system and how Delhi's government is setting an example by working effectively to serve the underprivileged. He introduced the 'Dharohar' mobile app, which aims to facilitate pensioners' convenience and provide them with important notifications. The 'Dharohar' mobile app launched during the event enables pension beneficiaries to register complaints, access pension-related information, and request modifications in their life certificates and account details.
The event also recognised the achievements of individuals who have overcome their disabilities through hard work and dedication. The Social Welfare Department is working to reduce the waiting time for the Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID), allowing individuals with disabilities to travel for free on Delhi government buses. Overall, the event celebrated the resilience, determination, and achievements of individuals with disabilities, highlighting the Delhi government's commitment to their welfare and inclusion.
