The Supreme Court, in its judgment dated July 24, amended the earlier directive to allow registration of all BS VI-compliant diesel vehicles in the national capital, irrespective of their association with the society. G20 summit.
According to an order from the Delhi Transport Department, quoting the Supreme Court judgment, “the competent authority has granted registration of all BS VI compliant diesel vehicles to Delhi GNCT for carriage of stages federal and All India Travel Permit (AITP). ), including coaches and buses with a capacity of more than 7+1 people."
The Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transport Operators Association welcomed the move, though it expressed displeasure over the delay in issuing the transport department's order.
In a statement, they said: “We wholeheartedly support this decision as it will help generate revenue for the Delhi government. Buses and tourists are temporarily eligible to register to emit lower levels of pollution than CNG vehicles, which will help reduce their environmental impact. ".
What is the BS-VI standard?
One of the main causes of global air pollution is the emission of toxic gases from motor vehicles. To address this problem, international vehicle standards are currently focusing on diesel and gasoline vehicles with significantly reduced PM 2.5 particulate emissions. However, India has lagged behind in adopting such measures, leading to dangerous levels of air pollution.
BS, short for Bharat Stage, stands for emission management standards applicable to motor vehicles across the country. Currently, India follows BS-IV norms, which will be completely phased out from April 1, 2020. These BS standards are consistent with European (European) emissions standards and are upgraded where necessary to address air pollution concerns.
