CBI raids residences of TMC Ministers, MLAs in Bengal

In relation to the recruitment corruption case, six officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided residences of West Bengal prominent former Minister and Kolkata Mayor, Firhad Hakim. He had also been incharge of the Department of Public Works and Urban Development.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, CBI reached his residence. The investigations have uncovered substantial information related to alleged recruitment irregularities, as per the claims made by the officials.

The raids were also simultaneously being carried out at the residence of Madan Mitra, a former Minister and MLA of kamarhati. In total, the raids were carried out at 12 places, associated with offices and homes of public servants.

The raids were carried out, following the ongoing raids of Enforcement Directorate (ED) after the judgement of Calcutta High Court earlier this year, in which several irregularities were highlighted in recruitments of school teachers and officers of municipalities, particularly for Group C and Group D officers.

However, CBI being a central agency under Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has attracted numerous criticism and contempt for its ruthless actions in the past by the leaders of Bengal.

Thus, it is yet to be seen as to what extent this raid is effective in unearthing and uncovering the evidences related to the job or recruitment scam.
