Another Bomb Hoax: Threat Emails Sent to Ahmedabad Schools

After 100 Delhi-NCR Schools received bomb threats on May 1, Several schools in Gujarat's Ahmedabad have received bomb threats emails on Monday, causing chaos and Panic among students and school authorities.

“Some schools in Ahmedabad have received emails threatening bomb blasts. So far, six schools have received such emails and have informed us about it. This seems to be on the lines of bomb threats received by schools in Delhi some days back," DCP cyber crime branch Lavina Sinha said.

The schools that received the threatening emails include Amrita Vidyalayam (Ghatlodiya), Kendriya Vidyalaya ONGC (Chandkheda), New Noble School (Chandkheda), Army School (Shahibagh), Anand Niketan (Bopal), Delhi Public School (Bopal), Asia English School (Vastrapur) and Calorex School (Ghatlodiya).

Swift Action by Police and Bomb Squad

The authorities of the affected schools promptly notified the police control room about the incident. Alongside the crime branch teams, the police and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) teams, swiftly arrived and thoroughly inspected the affected schools. An investigation into the matter has been initiated by the police, with more details awaited.

DCP Control Ahmedabad City said, “No need to panic, exaggerate…5-6 schools have been threatened through mail about bomb blast…we are checking. No need to give too much hype…people should not panic as tomorrow is poll day.”

A Hoax

The threat mails were sent via Russian domain 'mail.ru', similar to that of Delhi Schools. The username was tauheedl@mail.ru.

However, No suspicious material has been recovered as yet, officials have said. Police said there was nothing to panic.

"Everything is safe and sound. Our police, administration and agencies are investigating. There's nothing to panic about," said bomb squad officer B Yadav.

Voting in Gujarat

As Ahmedabad and other Gujarat seats except Surat are voting for the third phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha election on Tuesday, May 7th, an alert has been issued ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat.

Similar to Delhi-NCR Schools threats

On May 1, Similar Bomb threats were sent to around 151 schools in Delhi-NCR, including Gurugram, Noida, and Greater Noida. The schools were then swiftly evacuated and thorough search was conducted by Police and Bomb Squads.

The police have confirmed that the bomb threat emails sent to these schools in Delhi-NCR were hoaxes and originated from a username named "sawariim@mail.ru.
