Bengaluru Building Collapse: 13 Rescued, 5 Dead as Rains Hinder Rescue

The death toll from the building collapse in Bengaluru's Horamavu Agara area has risen to five as of Wednesday morning. This under-construction building collapsed on Tuesday afternoon, and 13 people have been rescued till now. It is feared that more may be still trapped in the debris. The building was at the eastern part of the city and was under-construction. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar confirmed it was in an illegal construction. He visited the site late Tuesday night, confirming that at least 21 got trapped when the building fell down.

Strict action will be taken against the culprits who constructed illegal buildings here. "This incident is a lesson for us. We will make it mandatory to seek permission for building constructions here, and a team will be sent for monitoring constructions in Bengaluru," he said in a  post. While the rescue operations are underway at full swing.

The heavy rain that has been pouring on the city for days has added to the problem in the rescue operations. Teams from NDRF, SDRF, the fire brigade, and local police have been working at a place to remove debris so people could be brought out safely who are still trapped. To track missing people, a dog squad has also been engaged in rescue. According to reports, one person is rescued alive, almost after 16 hours from the collapsed building.

City Under Continuous Rain and Waterlogging  

Bengaluru city has been totally waterlogged due to the uninterrupted rain. After the rain, the India Meteorological Department has sounded a 'yellow' alert for the city, claiming that the city would witness heavy rainfall all day long. In the wake of this warning, school administrations across the city have declared holidays, while IT companies have asked the staff members to work from home.
