Bengaluru landlords get pricey, ask for LinkedIn profile, IIT background

Finding a decent flat to rent in Bengaluru was and still is a difficult issue for most. Instances of such suffering were frequently shared. The most recent condition has now sparked a contentious concern. According to reports, the landlords are requesting LinkedIn accounts to select the renters "without a solid background."

Priyansh Jain, a software engineer at the Bengaluru branch of the Australian company Atlassian, later posted a screenshot of what appeared to be a chat he had with a broker in which the agent requested Jain's LinkedIn profile. Before exhibiting the flats, the owner must, according to Jain, verify his LinkedIn page, the middleman allegedly told him.

Landlords IIT IIM

Jain told the agent that he attended VIT Vellore, a private engineering college in Vellore, and the dealer responded that Jain's description "does not fit" and declined the property. Jain was also told by the realtor that only graduates from particular universities, such as IIMs, IITs, or ISB, would be granted access to the property.

Jain's incident was discussed by a few other Twitter users as well. Arnav Gupta, a different software developer, claimed that while looking for an apartment in Bengaluru, he was also requested to provide a LinkedIn profile.

“Moving to Bangalore, and the house owner asked for our LinkedIn profiles. What level of @peakbengaluru behaviour is this?” tweeted Arnav.

Other hilarious tweets were also posted speculating about the incident. “Looking for a tenant or son-in-law?” posted one user.

These very regulations have drawn harsh criticism from many Twitter users, who label them as "bizarre". In other cases, people even questioned if the landlords were seeking renters or "sons-in-law". "I can totally imagine people doing Problem-solving and culture interviews next before selecting a tenant 😄…. This is next level elitism though by homeowners." said another user.

Some also emphasized that these specifications can vary from one area to another. “Perhaps just a verification step. In other countries, it takes employee letters, past landlord reference letters, etc,” other people stated.

Other internet users mentioned how a similar mentality is spreading in IT communities in locations like Mumbai and Hyderabad.
