On Thursday night, Bengaluru and Delhi international airports were jointly given the prestigious title of Best Airport of the Year at Wings India Awards 2024 presented by Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia to celebrate excellence in the aviation sector.
Meanwhile Vistara-Tata SIA Airlines Ltd was awarded the Best Airline of the Year award, for their commitment to excellence in service. Air India received an award for its international connectivity, whereas Alliance Air, on the other hand, was honoured for its remarkable contribution to regional connectivity. Indigo won in the domestic category.
Air Indian Express was declared as a Sustainability Champion. GMR Group received recognition as the top aviation service provider, Skyways Air Services Pvt. Ltd for cargo services, Indian Oil Skytanking Pvt. Ltd for fuel services, and GMR for Aero Academy.
The Wings India Awards covered various categories, emphasizing the diversity and breadth of the aviation sector. Bangalore International Airport claimed the title in the ">25 MPPA Traffic" category, reflecting its efficient handling of over 25 million passengers annually. Hyderabad airport and Goa’s Dabolim airport won in the 10-25 million and 5-10 million passengers categories, respectively. Mangalore airport secured victory in the under 5 million category.
Mumbai and Delhi airports stood out as "Innovation" and "Sustainability Champions," showcasing their commitment to cutting-edge practices.
Beyond airports and airlines, the awards recognized excellence in service providers, manufacturing, drones, and startups. The state of Uttar Pradesh was acknowledged for its standout performance. The Lifetime Achievement Award for 'Iconic Women in Aviation' was presented to Tulsi N Mirchandaney, former MD of Blue Dart.
