In a major political development, the Aam Aadmi Party has elected as the next Chief Minister of Delhi. The AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal in an important meeting of AAP's party leaders on Tuesday announced the name of the next CM. Here, Atishi, a senior leader within the party and a current cabinet minister, would go onto become head of the government in Delhi. This comes in the wake of declaring two days ago that he would quit his position within 48 hours, as CM of Delhi. Kejriwal professed that his resignation hinges on seeking a "certificate of honesty" from the people of Delhi for his continued tenure as chief minister. He said the public must validate his governance before assuming the post again.

The Political Ascendancy of Atishi
Atishi has been an AAP central leader for years and is especially known for her work on education, women's welfare, and public administration. According to officials, she spearheaded several of the successful reforms Delhi had under the AAP government, especially in education. Over the years, she has been ascending the ladder within the party, and Kejriwal has tasked her with crucial portfolios since 2013 -in addition to Women and Child Development, Education, and Public Works. Dubbed by Kejriwal, Atishi will be the voice of the legislative party as the national capital stands on the brink of entering a crucial phase of the 2024 Assembly elections.
The Way Ahead
Atishi's term begins against the backdrop of political controversy, since the opposition, especially the BJP, has viewed Kejriwal's move as "political theater." Nonetheless, the AAP is working to demonstrate a seamless transition of power and to continue its education reform, health care reform, and infrastructure reform governance model that it had so successfully done with Delhi voters in past elections. Atishi's first task will be to maintain the momentum within the party and get ready for the next election battle by addressing key governance issues. Being one of the prime designers of AAP's policy successes, she will have to abide by the promises of the party to guide Delhi towards further growth and reform.
The AAP leader arvind Kejriwal will meet the Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena at 4:30 PM today to formally tender his resignation. This comes after Kejriwal's bail in the rather contentious case of excise policy recently.
