Assam Minor Gang Rape Case: Accused Drowns While Escaping Police | Molestation Suspect Shot

Around 3.30 a.m., an accused person in the gang-rape case of a young girl in the Nagaon region of central Assam attempted to flee from detention and drowned, according to authorities on Saturday, August 24, 2024.

The accused, Tafiqul alias Tafazzul Islam, was brought by the police to the crime scene, which was next to a pond on the side of the road in the Dhing area.

Police Superintendent Swapnanil Deka of Nagaon stated that when the accused—who was handcuffed and bound to a rope by a constable—tried to escape, it was already dark.

An injured constable was carrying the rope that was fastened to the accused's handcuffs. In addition to searching for two more suspects in the case, we are looking into the occurrence," Mr. Deka stated. The 14-year-old girl was riding her bicycle home after tuition on Thursday night when she was allegedly gang-raped by three guys on a two-wheeler.

After approximately an hour, some people discovered her unconscious and called the police. After her admission, a nearby hospital recommended that she be sent to the about 25-kilometer-distance Nagaon Medical College and Hospital. Assamese fury over the alleged gang rape spread, with demonstrators calling for harsh punishment for those responsible.

Near midnight on Friday, a molestation suspect in a different district was shot in the leg as he attempted to break free from police custody. Two young girls were pawed by two guys on Friday evening when they were out for their usual evening stroll in Tezpur town, according to a police official in the Sonitpur district of north central Assam.

Following the girls' alert, one of the two men—Shah Rukh Hussain—was apprehended by the townspeople, who then gave him over to the police. Miraz Ali, the second man, managed to get away, but the authorities apprehended him after many hours. He attempted to take one of our men's pistols.

In order to keep him from running away, he was shot in the right leg and taken to the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital.
