Andhra Temple decorated with currency notes and gold

Navratri is always celebrated all over India with great enthusiasm. A temple in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam decided to take it one step forward this time. The Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari temple has been decorated with currency notes and gold ornaments worth Rs 8 crores among the many other things in Navratri celebrations.

The management committee of the temple decorated the walls and floor with currency notes of Rs 3.5 crore and jewellery. Mass notes of various denominations ranging from Re 1 to Rs 2000 were kept around the diety, pasted to walls, on the floor and even hung from the ceiling. However, this is not the first time that the temple has invested so much in luxurious decor. It has now become a tradition.

According to the committee of this 135-year-old temple, the currency notes and gold ornaments are contributions from devotees and will be returned to them after the festivities and will not go to the temple trust. Last year too, the deity at Vasavi temple in Nellore district was decorated with currency notes worth Rs 5.16 crore.  A large number of devotees worship the ‘Dhanalakshmi’, the goddess of riches. The organisers adorned the deity with garlands and bouquets of original flowers made from the notes of various denominations such as 2000, 200, 500, 100, 50, 10 and various colours.

Earlier, the temple in Telangana’s Jogulamaba district was decorated with currency notes amounting to Rs. 1,11,11, 111. And again in 2017, the temple committee made the offering in a similar arrangement with currency notes amounting to Rs 3,33,33,333.

Faith and love for your God surely have no limit and we are glad we live in a country that celebrates its culture with such splendour!
