Domestic Carrier Akasa Air Commences International Operations

Akasa Air, the young airline goes International. The first International flight of the domestic carrier took off from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai and landed at Hamad International Airport, Doha, Qatar. Now, there will be four weekly nonstop flights on it.

On Thursday, The airline announced in a statement that it had been given traffic rights to operate flights to Kuwait, Jeddah, and Riyadh, three additional foreign locations other than Doha. 

The airline offers several connecting flights to and from Doha via Mumbai. According to its announcement, Passengers from several domestic cities, including Ahmedabad, Goa, Varanasi, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Kochi, and Delhi, will be able to take advantage of its conveniently scheduled flights. 

Additionally, the company has also released special holiday packages for Passengers travelling to Doha. Passengers can select affordable travel packages from Akasa Holidays.

To make the inaugural flight special, the first passenger on the flight received a special and unique boarding pass. Also, The all-female crew did a ceremonial ribbon-cutting.

In the coming months, Akasa plans to significantly expand its global footprint, according to the statement. Additionally, strengthening trade and tourism ties as well as increasing connectivity between Qatar and India are the goals of this move.

On August 7, 2022, the airline launched its first commercial flight. In the 120-year history of international aviation, Akasa made history by being the first airline to operate from zero to 20 aircraft in just one year.

Earlier, mainly as a domestic carrier in India, Akasa had operations in several cities, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and others.

Akasa holds a 4% market share with IndiGo continuing to hold a majority of 60%, and the airlines in the Tata Group together account for 26%. It now joins its large rivals IndiGo and Tata-owned Air India, coming at a turbulent time for the aviation industry after Go First and Jet have already filed for bankruptcy.
