Air India Express plans to add 50 new Boeing 737 MAX planes in next year

Air India Express, which is merging with its subsidiary AIX Connect, plans to add 50 new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to its fleet in the next 15 months, as the Tata Group expands its aviation business.

In addition, Air India Express, which is the first international budget carrier in India, along with AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India), will be relaunching under the new brand name on October 18.

In a note to Air India Express employees this week, Aloke Singh, Managing Director of Air India Express and CEO of AIX Connect, said key milestones have been reached in terms of integrating the two carriers, including the migration to unified reservations and check-in system.

The merged entity currently operates a fleet composed of 56 aircraft; 26 of which are B737 aeroplanes, 2 are B737-MAX aeroplanes, 5 are A320 neo aeroplanes and 23 are A320 aeroplanes. Altogether, the combined fleet covers an area of approximately 2,700 square kilometres, with Air India Express operating approximately 700 flights and AIX Connect operating the remaining. The fleet serves 44 destinations, of which 14 are international destinations.
