Abu Dhabi Crown Prince will be visiting India today with an agenda to strengthen bilateral engagement with India. It is for this reason that the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will make his first-ever official visit to India at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi which will be from September 9-10, 2024. The visit comes at a very important juncture in the evolving relationship between the two countries, further strengthening the already robust ties between India and the United Arab Emirates. Crown Prince will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including UAE Cabinet Ministers and a leading business delegation. His visit is an attempt to further consolidate the cooperation between the two countries in a diverse set of fields such as trade, investment, energy, technology, education, and culture.
Consolidating Strategic Relations
There has been a long-standing and amicable relationship between India and the UAE, which, in the last few years, further developed into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. A wide area of cooperation encompassing such areas as economic cooperation, regional security, and cultural interchange underpins it. The second strong pillar of this relationship is the blossoming economic and trade relationship between the two countries, which has immensely increased after the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Undoubtedly, the visit of Sheikh Khaled will consolidate these achievements, while discussions will focus on new avenues for cooperation, especially in emerging areas such as renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and green technologies.
Important Meetings and Engagements
Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 9 in New Delhi to hold talks on strengthening cooperation across a range of sectors. The high-profile meeting is expected to cover central issues such as increasing trade volumes, easing the flow of investments, and discussing collaborative projects in the energy security and technology innovation nexus. Besides meeting PM Modi, Sheikh Khaled will call on Indian President Droupadi Murmu. A visit to Rajghat to pay obeisance to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, by laying a wreath, falls within his program schedule.
Business Forum in Mumbai
On September 10, Sheikh Khaled will travel to Mumbai, the Indian financial center, in order to participate in a Business Forum for showing the potential of commercial exchange and different investment opportunities between the two countries. This forum will involve the leading business figures from the two countries, and it is foreseen that this would contribute to improving the dialogue of increasing economic cooperation and finding ways of joint ventures between the UAE and India.
The UAE is one of India's key trade partners, and the deliberations at the business forum are likely to focus on infrastructure development, energy, and technology. While both countries are engaged in developing their trade under the framework of CEPA, the forum will be a platform for debating future projects that could spur the economic connectivity between the two countries.
Significance of the Visit
Sheikh Khaled's visit comes at a time when India and the UAE are trying to further firm up their partnership on the international stage. In February 2024, Prime Minister Modi paid an official visit to the UAE, where he discussed various issues with the UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Indeed, the visit resulted in the signing of eight agreements, including the Memorandum of Understanding to create an intergovernmental framework for the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor-a signature project underlining the leadership role both nations are playing in the promotion of regional connectivity.
Similarly, the UAE and India have also seen strong trade growth, with overall bilateral trade reaching new highs. The UAE has also emerged as one of the largest overseas investors in India, with investments coming in real estate, energy, and logistics sector.
A Vision for the Future
Sheik Khaled's visit is thus looked upon as a forward-looking effort toward tapping into new areas of collaboration in that strategic partnership which is ceaselessly growing between the two nations. His visit will reaffirm the commitment of both countries to closely work on shared goals-from political and economic discussions to cultural and educational exchanges. It is expected to lay the foundation for further deepening the multi-dimensional relationship between India and the UAE, with top officials and business leaders from both countries participating in the visit. The deeper relations will help both countries for many years to come.
