6 y/o Kent, an Army dog, dies saving soldier during J&K's Rajouri encounter

In a poignant act of heroism, Kent, a courageous six-year-old Indian Army canine, made the ultimate sacrifice while defending a soldier during a harrowing terrorist encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.

Kent, a female Labrador, was leading a group of soldiers on the pursuit of terrorists when they found themselves in the midst of a fierce firefight. The clash erupted between terrorists and our valiant security forces in the village of Narla.

As a loyal member of the 21st Army Dog Unit, Kent displayed unwavering dedication by giving her life to shield her handler from harm. A spokesperson for the Defence shared, "Kent was leading a troop of soldiers on the trail of escaping terrorists and found herself under intense enemy fire."

"Kent played a pivotal role in 'Operation Sujaligala,' fearlessly leading our troops in pursuit of terrorists. She selflessly laid down her life while protecting her handler, embodying the finest traditions of the Indian Army," the spokesperson further stated.

Kent's selfless act drew heartfelt tributes from people worldwide, with social media buzzing in honour of her remarkable sacrifice.

To cherish her memory, the Indian Army released a touching video showcasing Kent's unwavering bravery. Over five years, Kent had been an integral part of eight operations.

Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police (Jammu Zone), disclosed that the skirmish unfolded during a search operation in the remote village, resulting in the loss of a terrorist and an Army soldier. Additionally, three security personnel, including two Army soldiers and one special police officer, sustained injuries during the fierce gunfight.
