21 year old medical student in Georgia returns home to won election in Sangli

Pune, Dec. 21 (PTI) Yashodhara Shinde, 21, was attending university in Georgia with the goal of becoming a doctor, but fortune had other plans for her. She went back to her city in Maharashtra, ran, and was elected sarpanch. She now wants to accomplish her studies online while working to improve her hometown of Vaddi in the Sangli district's Miraj tehsil. In an interaction with PTI, Shinde stated that she wants to empower women, provide pupils with e-learning and other educational resources, push youngsters to embrace healthy lifestyles, and support the village's farmers' community.

To finish the MBBS degree, I've been entering New Vision University in Georgia. She said, "I'm in my fourth year now, and I still have one and a half years to complete the degree." Locals in my village wanted a member of our family to run for the position of a sarpanch (village chief) when elections were announced.  Once a decision was reached, I was designated to assume the position. I returned, campaigned for office, and was successful after getting a call from my relatives, said Shinde.

On December 18, voting for 7,682-gram panchayats took place in some of Maharashtra. On Tuesday, the results were announced. When asked about her goals for the village's growth as sarpanch, Shinde said her major priority will be to solve women's problems and help them stand on their own.

"I think that women should be given a chance to show off their skills, and I want to empower and inform them so that they are independent," on their male counterparts she stated. Her list of concerns also covers the care and education of children. I want to introduce them to e-learning and the newest approaches, Shinde said. Further, I'd want to promote the establishment of toilets in the hamlet and make sanitary napkins widely available for women and girls. Children must also develop healthy behaviors she added.

Shinde also stated that she will interact with the young on the village's development goals. In the community, 70 to 80 percent of the people work in agriculture, and she said she wanted to help them prosper properly. When asked about her plans to get a medical degree, Shinde said that she would finish her studies online with the aid of her pals.
