"Not possible to save everyone" - says Haryana CM Khattar as riots escalate

Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, stated on Wednesday that his remark that "we can't protect everyone" about the communal clashes that erupted in the state's Nuh district on Monday is been misinterpreted.

On Wednesday, Khattar urged citizens to keep the state peaceful and harmonious during a press conference. He added that no one, including the state, could guarantee that everyone would be safe.

Khattar then claimed that his statement had been taken out of context. He clarified that he was implying that it was crucial to guarantee that there was peace among individuals in society in addition to having security personnel to protect people.

"To create an environment of security, it is necessary to have harmony first," he added.

Six individuals were killed over the past two days in the violence as well as violent mobs have set several vehicles and shops on fire.

Conflict broke out in Haryana's Nuh district after a mob attempted to block a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession on Monday. Clashes broke out between the two groups, cars were burned and stones were thrown.

116 people were arrested and 190 were detained in connection with the clashes so far, said the CM of Haryana.
