Another 'Pakadwa Vivah' in Bihar; Teacher forced in a gunpoint Marriage

Gautam Kumar, a 23-year-old government school teacher who was just hired after passing the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exams, is said to have been kidnapped and coerced into marrying a female at gunpoint.

Three or four armed guys are said to have abducted him on Wednesday and transported him to an unidentified location. At the middle school Utkramit Madhyamik School in Repura, Patepur, in the Vaishali district, Gautam Kumar was hired as a teacher.

Sources claimed that when Gautam's wedding photos went viral on Wednesday, the family of the kidnapped teacher staged a protest and blocked the state route.

Additionally, it is said that on Thursday, Rajendra Rai, Gautam's grandfather, filed a complaint with the Patepur police station. In response to the commotion, the police launched a search and found Gautam Kumar in the village of Narayanpur Dedhpura, which is under the jurisdiction of the Mahanar police station.

In accordance with the applicable provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the police also detained one of the incident's participants and filed a kidnapping report.

"Within 24 hours of the event, the police launched a search operation and found the kidnapped school teacher. In a statement, SP Vaishali stated, "One person has been arrested and efforts are underway to find others involved in the case."

According to Gautam Kumar's police statement, he was brought to a secret location and coerced into marrying the daughter of a local businessman named Rakesh Rai. Additionally, Gautam Kumar told the authorities that when he objected to the marriage, the armed men violently attacked him.

The school teacher, who had been saved by the police, declined to go along with the marriage, citing a recent High Court decision that had declared void a forced marriage that had taken place 10 years earlier between Army men from the Nawada district of Bihar.

The Pakadwa vivah (forced marriage) of an Army man who was kidnapped and forced to marry a female at gunpoint ten years prior was overturned by the Patna High Court last month.

Armed criminals hired by the bride's family abducted the army guy in 2013. But he made his way out of the bride's home and came back to do his work. Later, he filed a motion in family court to have his marriage dissolved. Recently, the Patna High Court rendered a decision nullifying forced marriage.
