A ₹88 crore flyover in Lakhimpur Kheri developed a massive, tunnel-like crater after heavy rainfall.

The incident took place near Gola Gokaran Nath on NH 730, where a large section of the road reportedly caved in after three days of rain.

Before officials arrived, a passerby hung his red shirt on a stick near the crater to warn motorists and prevent a possible accident. The video soon went viral.

National Highway officials and the construction company subsequently inspected the site and began repair work.

According to the project manager, rainwater seepage led to soil settlement, causing the depression. The construction company said the affected section is being repaired and is expected to be cleared within about a week.

However, the incident has also raised questions about the flyover’s construction and maintenance, with officials ordering further inspection.

A red shirt became an unexpected warning sign that may have helped prevent an accident.
