“I Am Trapped”: Former Miss Pune Twisha Sharma’s Death Sparks Massive Outrage

The death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma in Bhopal has triggered outrage across the country, with allegations of dowry harassment, mental torture, domestic abuse, and a possible cover-up now under investigation. Twisha, a resident of Noida and a former Miss Pune contestant, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, barely five months after her marriage to advocate Samarth Singh.

What began as a suspected suicide case has rapidly evolved into a high-profile investigation involving accusations against influential members of her husband’s family, including retired judicial officer Giribala Singh. Twisha’s family has alleged that she was repeatedly harassed after marriage and that authorities initially delayed registering an FIR. Her final chats with friends and family, now in the public domain, have intensified suspicions surrounding her death.

Twisha Sharma: MBA Graduate, Marketing Professional, and Former Pageant Contestant

Before her marriage, Twisha Sharma had built a multifaceted career spanning academics, corporate work, modeling, and entertainment. She held an MBA degree and had worked in marketing and communications roles in Delhi for several years. Friends and acquaintances described her as ambitious, outgoing, and professionally driven.

Twisha had also participated in beauty pageants and was reportedly associated with the “Miss Pune” circuit, which brought her recognition in modeling and social media circles. Apart from her corporate career, she appeared in the Telugu film Mugguru Monagallu, further reflecting her interest in the entertainment industry.

According to reports, Twisha met Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh through a dating app in 2024. The relationship progressed quickly, and the couple married in December 2025. Within months, however, her messages to friends and family allegedly began revealing signs of emotional distress, anxiety, and unhappiness in the marriage.

The Final Messages That Raised Alarm

The case drew national attention after Twisha’s alleged last chats surfaced online. In WhatsApp and Instagram conversations accessed by media organizations, Twisha repeatedly hinted that she felt “trapped” and mentally exhausted.

In one message sent to a friend on May 7, she wrote:

“I have been under anxiety because I am sitting at home. I want to do something with my life. Shaadi makes your family, but you cannot stop working on yourself, for yourself regardless where you are.”

She also advised her friend against rushing into marriage:

“Shaadi ki khujli me shaadi mat karna. Soch samaj kar aage badhna.”
(“Don’t rush into marriage just out of an urge to get married. Think carefully before moving ahead.”)

In another Instagram chat that later became central to public discussions around the case, Twisha allegedly wrote:

“I am trapped bro. Bas tu mat phasna.”
(“I am trapped, bro. You just make sure you don’t get trapped.”)

She added that she could not speak freely and would call “when the time is right.”

Separate WhatsApp conversations between Twisha and her mother painted an even more disturbing picture. In messages reported publicly, she allegedly complained that her husband was not speaking to her and accused him of repeatedly staging “drama.”

“Kyu bheja mujhe yaha? Ye yaha baat hi nahi kar raha hai,” she reportedly wrote after returning to Bhopal.

In another message, she said:

“Mera jeevan narak ho gaya hai mummy.”
(“My life has become hell, Mom.”)

She also allegedly told her mother that she felt suffocated and wanted to return home.

Discovery of the Body and Post-Mortem Findings

Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her husband’s home in Bhopal on May 12. According to preliminary post-mortem findings cited in multiple reports, the cause of death was “antemortem hanging by ligature,” suggesting she was alive at the time of hanging.

However, the case became more controversial after reports indicated that multiple injury marks were found on her body. Her family has claimed these injuries raise serious questions about whether the death was staged as suicide.

Some reports also alleged that Twisha was pregnant and had been forced to terminate the pregnancy against her wishes. These allegations have not yet been officially confirmed by investigators but have added another layer of gravity to the case.

Family Alleges Harassment and Cover-Up

Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, and cousin Ashish Sharma have publicly accused her husband and in-laws of harassment, abuse, and murder. They have also alleged that influential connections were being used to dilute the investigation.

Speaking to the media, Ashish Sharma described the family’s ordeal after reaching Bhopal following news of Twisha’s death:

“All we are seeing, all we have witnessed is horror.”

He further alleged that the family had to move “from pillar to post” to get an FIR registered, visiting police stations, the women’s commission, the Human Rights Commission, and senior police officials.

The family has repeatedly questioned why the husband allegedly went absconding after the incident and why police action was delayed in the crucial initial hours of the investigation.

Navnidhi Sharma also claimed that his daughter had repeatedly hinted she wanted to leave the marriage and return home. According to discussions cited online, Twisha had allegedly booked tickets to return, but those plans were disrupted.

Protest Outside Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister’s Residence

As anger grew over the handling of the case, Twisha’s family staged a protest outside the residence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in Bhopal.

The family demanded a fresh post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi, expressing distrust in the local investigation. Reports said Twisha’s body remained in the AIIMS Bhopal mortuary for several days as the dispute over the investigation intensified.

The protest drew wider public attention, especially on social media, where users questioned whether influential individuals connected to the legal system could affect the fairness of the investigation.

SIT Formed, Dowry Harassment Charges Registered

Following mounting pressure, authorities formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of dowry harassment and possible foul play. Cases have reportedly been registered against Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, a retired judge.

The allegations include mental harassment, domestic abuse, and dowry-related torture. Reports also suggest that police are examining digital evidence, including Twisha’s chats, phone records, and communication history, to establish the sequence of events leading up to her death.

The case has reignited debates around dowry harassment laws, domestic violence, and the challenges women face when trapped in abusive marriages, particularly when influential families are involved.

Public Reaction and Online Outrage

The Twisha Sharma case has sparked widespread outrage online, with thousands discussing the incident across platforms. Many users pointed to the emotional distress reflected in her final messages and questioned whether enough could have been done earlier to help her leave the marriage safely.

Several discussions focused on allegations that police initially hesitated to file an FIR, while others raised concerns about whether powerful families receive preferential treatment in criminal investigations.

The case has also reopened difficult conversations around societal pressure on women to “adjust” within marriages despite signs of emotional abuse or mental distress. Online commentary frequently highlighted the importance of family support systems and early intervention when women express discomfort or fear within marital homes.

Questions That Remain Unanswered

Even as investigations continue, several critical questions remain unresolved:

  • What explains the multiple injury marks reportedly found on Twisha’s body?

  • Were there prior complaints or documented evidence of harassment?

  • Why did Twisha repeatedly describe herself as “trapped” and “suffocated”?

  • Did authorities delay filing the FIR because of the accused family’s influence?

  • Was there an attempt to suppress or manipulate evidence?

  • What role will digital chats and forensic analysis play in determining the exact circumstances of her death?

Investigators are expected to rely heavily on forensic evidence, post-mortem analysis, and electronic communication records in the coming weeks.

A Case That Has Struck a National Chord

Twisha Sharma’s death has resonated far beyond Bhopal because it combines several deeply sensitive issues: alleged dowry harassment, mental abuse within marriage, the influence of powerful families, and the visible desperation reflected in a young woman’s final messages.

To many, the case represents more than an individual tragedy. It has become symbolic of the fear and helplessness women may experience inside abusive relationships, especially when social status, legal influence, or public image complicate the search for justice.

As the SIT investigation proceeds, Twisha’s family continues to demand an independent and transparent probe. For now, her final words, “I am trapped”, remain at the center of a case that has shaken public conscience and intensified demands for accountability.
