Dr. Tapan Kumar Lehri: The Unsung Hero of India

#TheUnsungHeros : Doctors are often called “Bhagwan ka roop” (form of God), and Dr. Tapan Kumar Lehri from Banaras Hindu University is a living example of this.

For the last 50 years, this renowned cardiac surgeon has been performing expensive heart surgeries completely free of cost.

He donates 90% of his salary to the Patient Welfare Fund.

When he was selected for the Padma Shri award in 2016, he politely refused it, saying that leaving his OPD for even two days would mean his patients would have no one to treat them.

A gold medalist from Britain’s Royal College of Surgeons, he rejected lucrative offers from London and Germany to serve in India.

He started teaching at BHU with a salary of just ₹250 and later became the Head of the Cardiac Surgery Department, training thousands of doctors.

Even today, at an advanced age, Dr. Tapan lives in a hostel and reaches his OPD at 6 AM every single day.

This is the true meaning of dedication and selfless service.
