The Gamer Who Dreamed Big: Rishabh Choudhary

The 22-year-old BA Honors student decided to take his passion for gaming beyond just the screen, he decided to make it into a reality.

His journey started with the game PUBG which he had started to play with his friends, initially what was just a way to pass time with his friends, became his main source of passion.

His friends recognised his interest in the game and decided to encourage him to play it at a more competitive level alongside professional players online. Rishabh took the opportunity and created a team of competitive players and started taking serious challenges online.

His team trained day and night to become ready for the upcoming online tournament when the game got banned online but they did not allow this to hold them back and they continued playing, eventually, the game made a comeback in 2021 under the name of BGMI and along with it came the BGIS, the biggest open tournament of the game for which there were over 600k+ registrations.

Though Rishabh and his friends had only phones with low specs they still went ahead with the tournament and made it to the top 200 teams before getting disqualified.

This disheartened Rishabh and his teammates as they had put in a lot of effort. Their parents were not happy about the time they were spending as it was affecting their studies and taking up their time. Soon this affected Rishabh, whose parents wanted him to focus on his last year and get a government job. But Rishabh did not want that, he wanted to focus on his gaming career and get into Esports professionally.

He started sending his gaming stats to professional Esports centres and for a while, he got no replies but he did not become disheartened; this gave him the inspiration to set up his own gaming company and kept going. Soon one of his emails got a reply from Charles Reilly, his current co-founder who enjoyed his enthusiasm and ideology. Charles Reilly invested in Rishabh’s idea and funded it. Together they found their current COO John Wisniewski who has experience in gaming and app development and management, making him responsible for setting up the company in the United States and for game development under the company in future. Having financial backing Rishabh remade his team and started playing again. Initially, Rishabh did not inform his father as he wanted to have a concrete plan before he did that.

Soon the team started playing competitively again but the game got banned once more this time Rishabh did not stop, he focused his energy on building his company and trying to put Esports on the map in India. Not having enough backing causes various Esports players to give up on their gaming dreams but Rishabh did not want that to happen to various other young players so he started signing on various gamers on YouTube and helped them build their passions. As of now, he has over 13 million followers on YouTube alone.

Python is not just an esports team, it’s a company with a vision of making esports for everyone. Now they signed on with various gaming content creators and prevented the exploitation of new and upcoming gamers online. They give them a structure to build them for a long-term career in gaming and as an influencer.

For Rishabh. Charles is a mentor as he has helped change many lives and Rishabh wants to play part in changing lives too. Due to parental pressure, he has had to change his career path many times from medical to military to civil services. Once he found his game he knew that this was what he wanted to do. Knowing the hardship he had to face while following his path, he does not want that for anyone else. This was why he chose to build a path on which young gamers could walk to achieve their own dreams and passion.

Since most of his family were in the Civil Services they wanted the same for Rishabh but he went against his family’s plan knowing that he could never be happy if he followed the same path.

To take this bold decision Rishabh had to do a lot of research especially because the company was located in the United States. He spends most of his time awake attending meetings and planning strategies and opportunities with various other companies.

Even though his parents doubted him and did not understand what he was doing, they still supported him because they knew he put in the hard work to achieve his dream and vision.

Having a valuable team and learning to delegate is what helped Rishabh turn his team into a reality.

The greatest advice he believes in is to think of it as a marathon and not a race, to research and keep going slowly because eventually, you’ll see the results.
