Nelson Mandela’s famous quote about the power of sports may resonate with Mr. Sagar Rai, founder of KIBI Sports Pvt Ltd.
Born and raised in a family with government service backgrounds, Mr. Rai received his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Air Force schools, and Government school. He went on to pursue his engineering degree from Inderprastha Engineering College, where he took several courses and training programs to further his knowledge in engineering. An aspiring UPSE candidate, he worked in several US-IT technical companies and IT consultancy firms to gain exposure to the corporate sector before finally deciding to venture out on his own.
It was during his final year of college that Mr. Rai started KIBI Sports Pvt Ltd. With a current team size of 22 people spread across 3 locations in Greater Noida, Pune, and Bangalore, KIBI Sports Pvt Ltd is armed with a digital sports that acts as a LinkedIn for sports community platform. The aim of the application is to democratize the sporting ecosystem through the power of data, bridging the networking gap between all stakeholders in the sporting industry.
Mr. Rai’s motivation for starting KIBI Sports Pvt Ltd came from his love for sports. An athlete himself who has played nationals in 4-5 sports, Mr. Rai saw the problems that plagued the sporting ecosystem and knew that he had to be the one to solve them. And so, KIBI Sports Pvt Ltd was born.
As a founder, Mr. Rai experiences both the pleasures and pains of being an entrepreneur. While the pleasure comes from positively impacting the lives of customers/consumers, the pain comes from a lack of time. As Mr. Rai explains, “We don’t get time to sleep, we don’t get time for ourselves, we don’t get time for our family. I have been traveling a lot. I have been outside my home like post-2016.”
As a person who comes from a family with government service background, Mr. Rai’s journey as an entrepreneur was not without its challenges. Initially, his parents were confused about his decision to pursue entrepreneurship instead of UPSE. However, as they saw the market response towards KIBI Sports Pvt Ltd and understood Mr. Rai’s passion, they began to support him.
For budding entrepreneurs, Mr. Rai has some words of wisdom. He believes that if you are turning your passion into your profession, then it is a great journey for you. Every day will be a learning experience, and you will enjoy what you do. However, Mr. Rai also cautions that entrepreneurship is not a fancy thing. It is a serious job that requires passion, purpose, and prior experience. The key is to keep an open mind and learn from every experience, good or bad.
Mr. Rai is a hardworking, passionate, and purpose-driven individual who has dedicated his life to solving a problem close to his heart. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, as he has received several awards and accolades, including the Indian Innovation Startup Award by Sharda University.
