Not Dhurandhar 2 or Hanuman Anjani… This Marathi Film Is India’s Oscar Entry! 🎬🇮🇳

Out of 33 films, Marathi movie Gondhal has been selected as India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars.

Written and directed by Santosh Davakhar, the film is set in rural Maharashtra and revolves around the traditional Gondhal ritual, as a newlywed woman plans to escape an oppressive marriage for her forbidden love.

According to the jury, Angh and Main Wapas Aaunga were among the other final contenders, while Dhurandhar 2 reportedly received four votes from the 14-member jury.

Davakhar also won the Silver Peacock for Best Director at IFFI 2025.
