Bigg Boss 20 Begins: Who Are the 17 Celebrities Inside Salman Khan’s House?

Bigg Boss 20 has finally arrived, and the milestone season has wasted no time in bringing together an eclectic mix of television actors, regional stars, sportspersons, digital creators, gamers and musicians. Hosted once again by Salman Khan, the 20th season premiered on September 6 with a grand opening packed with celebrity entries, emotional moments, playful banter and hints of the drama that could dominate the weeks ahead.

The latest season features 17 contestants, including Olympic boxing legend Mary Kom, television actor Mahhi Vij, Panchayat fame Aasif Khan, Bhojpuri star Amrapali Dubey, actress Kanika Mann, reality-show winner Kushal Tanwar aka Gullu, singer Qazi Touqeer, esports personality Tanmay Singh aka Scout, actor-model Uditi Singh, actress Isha Rikhi, and several other popular faces.

The season is also introducing a fresh gameplay element involving Vardaan, or a special lifeline that can potentially alter a contestant’s journey. The premiere established that the new twist could give housemates additional power and influence, making the competition more unpredictable from the very beginning.

Bigg Boss 20 contestants: From Mary Kom to Scout

The contestant lineup reflects how dramatically reality television has expanded beyond traditional film and television celebrities.

Mary Kom is arguably the biggest name in the house. The six-time World Amateur Boxing Champion and India's first woman boxer to win an Olympic medal has entered reality television for the first time. During her premiere appearance, she demonstrated her boxing skills on stage and even faced a playful situation involving flirting. Salman Khan reminded her that physical aggression would not be acceptable inside the house and advised her to control her temper.

Television actor Mahhi Vij is another prominent contestant. Known for shows such as Laagi Tujhse Lagan and Balika Vadhu, she has already participated in reality shows in the past. Her entry comes after a period of attention surrounding her personal life, including her separation from actor Jay Bhanushali. During the premiere, Mahhi spoke about her temper and said she finds it difficult to tolerate unhygienic behaviour.

Aasif Khan, known for his work in Panchayat, Mirzapur and Paatal Lok, entered the house with an emotional story. He recalled the financial difficulties he experienced following his father's death and spoke about the struggles he faced before finding recognition as an actor. His premiere interaction with Salman also became emotional.

Then there is Tanmay Singh, popularly known as Scout, representing India's booming gaming and esports community. Scout has built a substantial following through gaming streams, esports content, videos and collaborations. During the premiere, it was revealed that he earns around Rs 30 lakh a month. Digital personalities including Elvish Yadav, Abhishek Malhan and CarryMinati also extended their support to him before his entry.

The lineup also includes Arishfa Khan, a former child actor who has grown into a major social media influencer. She reportedly has around 29.1 million Instagram followers and even revealed that her 10 cats have a social media following of their own. Salman jokingly asked her to share some of her social-media growth secrets after the show.

Amrapali Dubey, Qazi Touqeer and other familiar faces

Bhojpuri cinema gets strong representation through Amrapali Dubey, one of the industry's most recognisable stars. She was introduced on the premiere stage by her close friend and Bhojpuri star Nirahua. Amrapali spoke warmly about Salman Khan and his iconic romantic character Prem, even expressing her wish to find someone with similar qualities in real life.

Qazi Touqeer, who shot to fame after winning Fame Gurukul in 2005, is making a return to prime-time visibility after a long absence. He showcased his singing skills on the premiere and impressed Salman with his performance.

The season also features Kanika Mann, who became the first contestant to enter the Bigg Boss 20 house. She has already experienced reality television through Khatron Ke Khiladi and entered the house following a playful game with Salman. She was subsequently given a special Vardaan in the confession room, allowing her to influence the fate of other contestants and effectively positioning her as a "Puppet Master" in the early stages of the game.

Reality television veteran Kushal Tanwar aka Gullu, meanwhile, enters the house with considerable momentum after victories in shows including Roadies and Splitsvilla. His competitive background could make him one of the contestants to watch as strategic alliances and rivalries begin taking shape.

Other contestants include Punjabi actor Love Gill, actor Aman Gandhi, model-actress Uditi Singh, singer-songwriter Rhiti Tiwari, actor-model Rohed Khan, rapper Yung DSA and Isha Rikhi.

Love Gill wins audience vote, Rhiya Ahir misses out

One of the early twists involved Love Gill and Rhiya Ahir, who were competing for a place inside the house. Their fate was left to the audience, with viewers choosing between the two contestants.

Love Gill eventually emerged victorious after receiving the maximum votes. Rhiya Ahir, who had attracted attention after her participation in student protests in Mumbai, therefore did not enter the house. Their rivalry had already been teased during the premiere, where the two were shown clashing on stage in front of Salman Khan.

The development demonstrated that audience participation could become an important factor in shaping the season, rather than merely determining eliminations later in the competition.

Isha Rikhi gets emotional while opening up about her past

One of the most talked-about moments of the Bigg Boss 20 premiere came with the entry of Isha Rikhi.

The actor-model, who has worked in Punjabi cinema and made her Bollywood debut with Nawabzaade, entered the show amid considerable attention surrounding her personal life following her separation from rapper Badshah.

During her introduction video, Isha became emotional while reflecting on a difficult phase of her life. Without naming anyone, she spoke about falling in love, wanting to settle down and eventually experiencing a breakdown of trust. She said the experience made her question where she had gone wrong and left her feeling as though she had become a side character in her own story.

However, Isha made it clear that she did not want her Bigg Boss journey to revolve around her past. She said she wanted to step out of the shadows, establish an identity of her own and ultimately leave the show as the winner.

Salman Khan responded by encouraging her to move forward instead of allowing her past relationship to define her journey. He advised her to keep personal matters personal, focus on the present and concentrate on the competition inside the house.

His intervention transformed what could have been a purely emotional moment into a broader message about reclaiming one's identity after a difficult chapter.

Mahhi Vij already faces friction inside the house

If the premiere is any indication, Bigg Boss 20 may not take long to produce its first major conflicts.

A preview of the upcoming episode shows Mahhi Vij becoming a source of irritation for several housemates. Aman Gandhi and Arishfa Khan reportedly discuss their difficulty in connecting with her, while Isha Rikhi expresses frustration over Mahhi's tendency to give instructions to others.

Mahhi has also openly acknowledged that she has anger issues and struggles with unhygienic behaviour. Salman, however, drew a distinction between anger and temper during their premiere interaction, suggesting that having a strong personality could be an asset if managed properly.

With contestants already reacting to one another's personalities, the house dynamics could become one of the biggest attractions of the season.

Bigg Boss 20 gets a new gameplay twist

Beyond the celebrity lineup, Bigg Boss 20 is attempting to refresh its familiar format through the introduction of special powers and lifelines.

The Vardaan concept gives contestants opportunities to gain advantages that could affect the course of the game. The season also features a special 2X room, which is connected to the distribution of these advantages.

Kanika Mann's early transformation into the "Puppet Master" demonstrates how these powers could potentially give contestants influence over one another even before the usual nomination and elimination cycle fully settles in.

For a show entering its 20th season, the challenge is not simply to assemble famous faces but to keep the format unpredictable. The new gameplay mechanisms appear designed to do exactly that.

Salman Khan makes the milestone premiere bigger

The 20th season also received the kind of grand opening traditionally associated with Salman Khan's Bigg Boss premieres.

The superstar returned as host and performed to 20 of his popular songs, creating a celebratory opening for the milestone season. The premiere also included celebrity interactions, surprise appearances and special messages for contestants.

Mary Kom received a special video message from Priyanka Chopra Jonas, while Rhiti Tiwari was introduced with her father, actor-politician Manoj Tiwari, making a special appearance on stage. Salman also used humour to remind Rhiti of her father's own Bigg Boss history.

With personalities from sports, television, cinema, regional entertainment, music and the digital world sharing one house, Bigg Boss 20 has clearly opted for variety.

The real test, however, begins now. With powerful personalities, emotional backstories, social-media stars and competitive reality-show veterans under one roof, alliances are likely to shift quickly. And if the opening night is anything to go by, the season already has enough ingredients for confrontations, unexpected friendships and plenty of headline-making moments.
