Diljit Dosanjh’s fans in the capital have been dealt a blow. Delhi Police have denied permission for the singer’s October 30 concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, citing security concerns, according to reports.
The Delhi show was to open the Aura India Tour, and the decision leaves the schedule for its first stop in doubt.
What the police letter says
Reports say the denial came in a letter sent to ticketing platform BookMyShow by the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Delhi. It reportedly says the request to hold the event could not be approved because of threat-related inputs, security requirements during the festive season, and other law-and-order concerns.
The police have not publicly explained what the threat-related inputs are, and I could not find an official statement describing them. Delhi Police sources confirmed the refusal to IANS.
What the tour looks like
The tour was due to begin in Delhi on October 30. From there, it was scheduled to move to Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Kolkata. Whether the rest of the schedule is affected has not been announced.
Silence from the singer’s side
At the time of writing, there was no official confirmation from Dosanjh, his team or the organisers about whether the concert is cancelled, postponed or being moved to another venue. Reports describing the show as “cancelled” go further than the police letter, which refused permission. That distinction matters, since organisers can sometimes reapply, change the venue or date, or appeal. Ticket holders are waiting for word on refunds or rescheduling, and I found no statement yet from BookMyShow.
Why it is a big deal
Dosanjh is one of the biggest draws in Indian live music. He has played major venues around the world, including Madison Square Garden in New York and Wembley Stadium in London, and became the first Punjabi artiste to headline and sell out Wembley. His last Delhi concert at the same stadium, the opening night of the Dil-Luminati India Tour in October 2024, drew thousands of fans and a security deployment of more than 3,000 personnel, with paramilitary forces on standby and traffic diversions across central Delhi.
That scale is one reason large concerts in the capital need extensive clearances from police, fire, and other agencies. October is also a crowded month for the city’s security forces, with festivals and the political protests under way in Delhi.
What fans should do
If you have a ticket, watch for official announcements from BookMyShow and the artist’s social media accounts, and avoid unofficial resellers. Refund and rescheduling details have not yet been announced. Treat any message that asks for payment or personal details with caution, since scams often appear around cancelled events.
What to watch
An official statement from Dosanjh’s team or the organisers, whether the show is rescheduled or moved, what happens to the rest of the tour, and any clarification from Delhi Police on the nature of the threat-related inputs.
