US News and World Report have recently released its list of the top global universities of 2022-23 with China boasting most of the schools in the rankings. Out of the 2,000 schools from more than 90 countries ranked by U.S. News & World Report, 338 Chinese universities made the list, compared to 280 American universities. This course is the first time China has outnumbered the U.S. on university rankings showing a big leap in Chinese education by Worldwide standards.
However, 8 of the US schools have made it to the Top 10 list.
Robert Morse, the Chief data strategist at US news said, "The Best Global Universities rankings offer prospective students a valuable resource for exploring higher education options outside of their home country.”
Harvard University was ranked the best globally amongst the top 2,165 colleges and universities from across 90 countries. The university has held that number-one spot for years now. The report also ranked it at the top for its several disciplines, biotechnology, microbiology, cell biology, and immunology. Additionally, the university was ranked best for its overall prestige surrounding its research publications, and regional research publication.
The report added four new subjects to its 43 rankings: artificial intelligence; education and educational research; meteorology and atmospheric sciences; and water resources. “They’re hot fields right now and there is a lot of interest at different levels,” Morse said.
Thirteen indicators were used to mark and properly assess the institutions on academic research and reputation. Global research reputation, regional research reputation, and the number of total publications that are among the 10% cited were the three most heavily measured for the ranking.
