NCERT removes chapters on Mughals from textbooks

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has revised the Class 12th History curriculum by removing chapters related to the Mughal Empire. Consequently, the syllabus for all boards, including CBSE, UP, and other state boards that follow NCERT, will be changed for the 2023-24 academic year. NCERT has also updated the Class 12th Civics book by removing chapters related to US hegemony in world politics, the Cold War Era, the rise of popular movements, and the era of one-party dominance. The curriculum for Classes 10th and 11th has also been revised, with certain textbooks being omitted.

The changes include the removal of chapters related to Central Islamic lands, the confrontation of cultures, the Industrial Revolution, democracy and diversity, popular struggles and movements, and challenges to democracy. All boards following the NCERT curriculum will revise their syllabi according to the new changes. Uttar Pradesh board secretary Divyakant Shukla has confirmed the updated syllabus for Classes 10th, 11th, and 12th, and the revised UP Board Syllabus 2023-24 will be available on the official website. Books with rationalized syllabi are now available in the market.
