First IIT campus outside India finds its home in Tanzania: MEA

The first IIT campus outside of India is all set to be started in Tanzania’s Zanzibar. This announcement was made by the Ministry of External Affairs, on Wednesday. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by MOE S.Jaishankar and Zanzibar’s President Hussein Ali Mwinyi. 

This IIT will stand as an archipelago planned to be constructed in Eastern Africa. The MOU was signed between IIT Madras, MOE and Zanzibar’s ministry. This will be a significant start to inculcate the Indian education system across the globe. It is a great step to expand the IITs outside India, which will foster educational opportunities mutually along with International collaborations.

Minister of External Affairs tweeted “Witnessed the signing of the agreement on setting up of  IIT Madras  Zanzibar campus. Appreciate President  gracing the occasion, Dr.Hmwinyi as also the presence of his Ministers. This historic step reflects India’s commitment to the Global South.”
