'Twin exam option' introduced for Class 10 and 12 CBSE students

In a bid to make students stress-free, Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan announced that from 2024 onwards, students can choose to appear for the Class 10 and Class 12 Board exams once or twice a year.

However, speaking in an interview to PTI, he said that appearing twice a year will not be mandatory and the concept is being introduced as an option to reduce students' stress caused by the fear of a single opportunity.

It is notable that between the scores of two board exams, the best score of either would be considered. This will give students a one more chance to improve their performances if they failed to score good marks in the first attempt of their Board exams.

In the light of the recent suicide incidents in Kota of Rajasthan, the assurance given by the Education Minister, serves as an important step in improving the mental health of students. The exam stress and worry is something which takes a heavy toll on the health of students, both physically and mentally.

Mr. Pradhan also emphasized on the issue of "dummy schools" and the need to take steps for their effective performances.

The decision to hold exams at least twice a year was announced in August by the Minister under the New Curriculum Framework (NCF) which follows the guidelines of the National Education Policy-2020. (NEP 2020)
