Women per capita share in bank deposits rise to 20.5 percent

The share of women customers in depositing money increased to rupees 37 lakh crore. In percentage terms, that's an increase of 20 per cent. According to the data provided by the Reserve Bank of India, the overall deposit which includes every depositor witnessed a growth of 10.2 per cent to ₹180 lakh crore. 

 

The share of women customers depositing money is the highest it has been in the last five years. The overall per capita income of women depositors also increased by ₹4618 to ₹42,503 in the same period. 

 

In this, the total share of senior women citizens was 36 per cent, amounting to ₹13.2 lakh crore. It also represents 7.2 per cent of the total deposits during the financial year. According to the report published by the Reserve Bank of India, rural areas are witnessing an increased number of women depositors post-pandemic. 

 

State-wise data shows that Goa, HP, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Kerala have witnessed a per-capita change of more than ₹10,000 in the last five years. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha are at the bottom of the table. The share of women in the loan segment however remains the same, the SBI report said.The report also highlighted that in States like the south where participation of women in MNREGA is more, PMJDY's women beneficiaries are also more than the national average.
