MoD signs a ₹1,070 crore agreement for 14 Coast Guard Fast Patrol Vessels

India's Ministry of Defence has agreed to buy 14 fast patrol vessels (FPVs) from Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDL). The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) will be using these. The deal is worth 144 million rupees, or ₹1,070.47 crore, and the ships will be delivered in 63 months. MDL will plan, construct, and develop the FPVs under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category. They will have high-tech features and tools, like drones that can be used for different things, remote water rescue craft lifebuoys, and AI capabilities.

The ships will improve operations to protect fisheries, keep an eye on things, search for and save people who are missing, help ships in trouble, tow them out of trouble, control and monitor marine pollution, and fight piracy. Getting these FPVs will help the ICG do its job better and show that the government is serious about maritime security. In line with the government's "aatmanirbhar Bharat" initiative, the contract will help build more ships in India and encourage growth in related industries, especially in the MSME sector. It is hoped that the project will create jobs and help people learn new skills.
