Tesla executive and Indian government meet for a special purpose

The US-based company Tesla owned by Elon Musk is meeting Indian officials today on 17 May and Thursday 18 May. India is actually a potential market and many auto companies are investing in India on a larger scale, like MG and Suzuki. Tesla does want to sell their cars in India and therefore they will discuss the problems like providing local services, workers, equipment and overall procurement.

Musk wants to sell his cars in India but the major issue is high import taxes. India is among those countries whose import taxes are really very high. For this matter, his senior executives would talk over lowering taxes. But India's government is focusing on local manufacturing. PM Modi’s ultimate focus is attracting manufacturers to empower the 'Make in India' project.

Within Tesla, other companies want to reduce their dependency on China for manufacturing. But Musk said, India won’t be able to manufacture high-priced Tesla cars. Looking at the circumstances, it’s hard to say that today’s meeting will be successful.
