New air-compressor & air-conditioner factory in Chennai: Mitsubishi Electric India

Mitsubishi Electric India (MEI), a manufacturer of electronic equipment, has announced plans to establish a new manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu. The plant, which will be located in the Tiruvallur district, will require an investment of around ₹1,891 crore. On Tuesday, May 9th, Chief Minister MK Stalin laid the foundation stone for the factory in Chennai. MEI officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guidance Tamil Nadu, a government-supported initiative, to set up the facility.

The upcoming factory to manufacture room air-conditioners and compressors will be constructed on a 52-acre plot owned by Origins by Mahindra in the Peruvoyal village of Gummidipoondi Taluk in Thiruvallur district. During a video conference, Chief Minister MK Stalin, along with Minister of Industries Thangam Thennarasu, additional chief secretary industries department S Krishnan, and Mitsubishi Electric India MD Kazuhiko Tamura, among others, laid the foundation stone for the manufacturing facility. According to the company, Mitsubishi Electric India will invest ₹1,891 crores as 100% foreign direct investment, which will create more than 2,000 jobs, with 60% of the workforce comprising women employees.
