Auto Expo 2023:Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door Launches in India

Maruti’s much-awaited Jimny is finally here. The rugged-looking SUV was displayed at the Auto Expo 2023. The 3-door Suzuki Jimny is already available in the global markets and the upcoming Jimny for India is based on it.
Maruti is planning to launch the off-roader with the already existing 3-Door variant and a new 5-Door variant. The expected launch date for the Jimny is in June 2023.

Jimny Off-Road

The Jimny is equipped with a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine that is seen in the Brezza and Ertiga producing 103 bhp and 130 Nm of torque. As the engine has both manual, and automatic variants, the Jimny is expected to release with both options.
While the engine may not be very impressive, the Jimny has a light Kerb weight of 1,090 Kg for the 3-door variant and only 100kgs more for the 5-door variant. The lighter kerb weight and ample ground clearance will make things interesting in terms of performance and covering broken roads with ease.

Maruti plans to launch the Jimny with a sophisticated cabin and sporty interiors to improve the experience as well as compete with the dominant Mahindra Thar and not-so-popular Force Gurkha. The interiors have a minimalistic look with modern features.
The Global 3-door variant is available with Suzuki’s AllGrip 4WD system with low-range transfer gear and the Indian model might be available with the same. Maruti might follow the footsteps of Mahindra as seen with the launch of the new RWD Thar and launch a 2WD variant for the Jimny as well.
The price of the Jimny is expected to be around ₹10 Lakhs which puts it in the range of stiff competition from compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq while its direct competitors are the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha. With the launch of the Jimny, lifestyle motorists will get another exhilarating pick in the lot.
