Vande Bharat Express flagged off - What, where, how of the next step of India's mobility

On Friday, September 30, 2022, Prime minister of India Narendra Modi flagged off the Vande Bharat Express train which will be connecting Gandhinagar – Mumbai Central.  This is the third Vande Bharat Express, the route of the other two was New Delhi - Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and New Delhi - Varanasi.

The train was flagged off at 10:30 am from Gandhinagar Capital railway station. It will be operating all days except Sundays.  The 20901 train will depart from Mumbai Central at 6:10 am and reach Gandhinagar by 12:30 pm. The return train 20902 will depart from Gandhinagar around 2:05 pm and reach Mumbai Central by 8:35 pm.

Officials also informed that this 16-coached train having compartments of AC Chair car and Executive Chair car can seat 1,128 passengers and will halt at Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad and will commence on 1 October 2022. Executive chair car fares between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will be Rs 2,505, while chair car fares will be Rs 1,385.

 "This train will offer world-class comfort and facilities to passengers. The fully air-conditioned Vande Bharat has several modern features, such as sliding doors, personalized reading lights, mobile charging points, attendant call buttons, bio-toilets, automatic entry and exit doors, and comfortable seats," reported the railways in a release.

With the upgraded Vande Bharat trains, travelers will be more comfortable and safer with CCTV cameras, reclining seats, GPS systems, automatic fire sensors, on-demand content with Wi-Fi, and 3-hour battery backup. A photocatalytic ultraviolet air purification system has been installed in the roof-mounted package unit (RMPU) for air purification. This will clean and filter the air from bacteria, viruses, germs, etc.

Following “Made in India”, most of the parts are produced here. The next target is to manufacture 75 Vande Bharat trains by August 2023.
