The monkey’s festival is celebrated every year in Thailand.
This year, the festival was celebrated on November 27, 2022. This festival has been celebrated for years, dating back to the 1980s.
This year at the festival, fake monkey statues were lined up holding trays in their hands. The feast prepared for the monkeys was carefully brought in and placed on the trays for the real macaque monkeys by the volunteers, who were responsible for preparing food as well as serving it.
The statues of monkeys holding trays were lined up outside the temple of the ancient Three Pagodas compound.
During the process of serving the food, a large number of monkeys ran around, fighting and enjoying the time, while at the same time the crowd of visitors as well as the locals watching them grew in number.
The monkeys ate eagerly when the feast was served.which was a large vegetarian feast.
However, it is not only to celebrate the monkeys but also to attract tourists and promote their city.
The festival’s founder, Yongyuth Kitwatunusont, stated: "This monkey feast festival is a successful event that helps promote Lopburi’s tourism among international tourists every year."
He also added: "Previously, there were around 300 monkeys in Lopburi before increasing to nearly 4,000 nowadays. But Lopburi is known as a monkey city, which means monkeys and people can live in harmony," he added.
In the city, the lives of most of the localities depend upon tourism.
This year’s theme for the lopburi monkey feast festival was "monkeys feeding monkeys." This theme was a new edition this year, as last year not all the monkeys attended this festival due to the huge number of tourists and localities.
The monkeys and the locals have lived together for years in the same city. The monkeys can be seen everywhere in the city.
However, this festival is celebrated annually to honour the monkeys for attracting tourists to their city.
